Pollution in Black Sea
Published: October 8th, 2009
The Romanian Maritime Authorities are facing a challenging task to contain pollution caused by the fuel escaping from the fuel tanks of MV Paris.
The MV Paris sunk in 1995 during a heavy storm after colliding the North breakwater of Constanta Port. As of 5 Oct 2009 a patch of oil was observed at the site of the disaster. The tanks of MV Paris are said to contain about 236 Mt fuel oil sand about 20 Mt Diesel Oil. The pollution is contained for the moment by a floating barrier but the solution is just a temporary one and presently the authorities are looking for solutions to have this bunker pumped out from the tanks of the wreck.
