Customs news on 100% scanning
Published: February 12th, 2009The World Customs Organization (WCO) is looking into alternatives to 100% scanning. It started a dialogue with the American Congress to talk about the law concerning 100% scanning, says WCO secretary general Kunio Mikurya. He sees a lot more interest in developing tools for risk management. Newly elected US president Barack Obama will very likely keep the controversial measure as it was initially backed by democrats. After carrying out several pilot studies, experts say that 100% scanning would be very costly even though technically feasible.
